Contemporary Ceramic Art Creation: Pathways for Revitalizing Traditional Crafts

Abstract

In contemporary ceramic art creation, traditional crafts are shifting from technique reproduction to linguistic translation. This paper, based on a stance of "revitalization," examines the mechanisms by which traditional craft elements are re-identified, deconstructed, and recombined in the contemporary context. The study is conducted from three levels: revaluation of the craft's ontology, encompassing the temporal dimension of material language, tacit knowledge structures, and the semantic voiding of symbols; analysis of transformation mechanisms, including parameter deviation, process interruption, and defamiliarization of tool tactility; and aesthetic reconstruction, focusing on the temporal landscaping of firing traces, the loosening of integrity boundaries, and the isomorphism of craft rhythm and viewing time. The research points out that the revitalization pathway of traditional crafts does not lie in the reproduction of complete styles, but in the structural extraction and reconfiguration of their internal logic, transforming crafts from manufacturing norms into an operable variable system.
